Levan Mgaloblishvili, the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, alongside Davit Morgoshia, the Minister of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, commemorated the 151st anniversary of the birth of Dimitri Gulia, the founder of Abkhaz literature and historiography. In honor of the occasion, they laid a wreath at the poet's monument and paid tribute to his memory.
Mgaloblishvili emphasized the significance of Dimitri Gulia's role in the rapprochement of Georgian and Abkhaz societies, stating, "Dimitri Gulia’s contribution to fostering closer relations between the Georgian and Abkhaz communities is of fundamental importance. His work stands as an exemplary model, as Gulia was ethnically Abkhaz and profoundly appreciated and understood the importance of Georgian-Abkhaz relations. His scholarly and cultural activities were dedicated to this very cause, and he implemented numerous significant initiatives in this regard."
The Chairman further expressed his confidence that Gulia’s vision would soon be realized, affirming that the unity of Georgians and Abkhaz would ultimately be restored: “I am certain that the shared aspirations of both his and our societies will soon come to fruition, and in the near future, together with our Abkhaz brothers and sisters, we will continue to live in a united and strong Georgia.”
Dimitri Gulia is particularly noted for his foundational contributions to the creation of the Abkhaz alphabet. Additionally, he translated numerous important works of Georgian literature into Abkhaz, including Shota Rustaveli’s The Knight in the Panther’s Skin. He also established the first Abkhaz theatrical troupe and served as the first editor of the Abkhaz newspaper Apsni.
The so-called elections on the occupied territory of Abkhazia represent another unsuccessful attempt by the Russian Federation to legitimize its illegal occupation, ethnic cleansing, and de facto annexation of the region.
The elections conducted under the occupying regime are illegitimate and, according to all norms and principles of international law, represent an unlawful act against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.
No so-called elections on occupied territory can be considered fair as long as the Georgian population has been expelled as a consequence of ethnic cleansing, and the remaining ethnic Abkhaz people have been forced to endure persistent pressure from the Russian Federation for decades. We urge the participants in the Geneva International Discussions and our partner countries to forcefully condemn this fact.
Our main goal is to continue negotiations in order to peacefully facilitate the unconditional return of our temporarily displaced population to Abkhazia and, together with the Abkhaz people, restore our centuries-old unity within a united state.
The Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia calls the international community, which recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders, to properly assess this action.

During the meeting, the Georgian delegation emphasized the security, humanitarian, and human rights situation in the occupied regions and near the line of occupation. They underscored the actions taken in blatant violation of the fundamental principles of international law, which are directed toward the illegal annexation of these regions. In this context, the Georgian side highlighted the issue of the unlawful operation of the airport in the occupied region of Abkhazia.
